Soba House in Azumino, Nagano

Soba has long been a food recognized by people around the world as a simple, but healthy Japanese noodle.

Designed around this simple concept, Soba House provides a hands-on, hyper-local experience providing Food, Art, Education, Sound, and Nature.

One of the most unique elements you’ll find throughout the house is the one-of-a-kind art created by owners Yasu, Marco, and other local artisans.

Accommodations at Soba House are designed with an artistic touch that’s incorporated into traditional Japanese rooms.

So, what about the Soba?

As the name indicates, Soba House provides a hands-on experience focused on this Japanese ‘super food’.

Led by owner Yasu Takagi, guests get their hands into the action by learning the process, techniques, and appreciation of what it takes to make proper soba noodles.

The kitchen area is spacious and can accommode groups up to 12 people. Both kids and adults form a connection and appreciation with the food they are about to eat.

Besides the homemade soba, a feast of locally sourced food is served up including trout, vegetables, and beef.

Azumino is a quiet area just 30 minutes by train from Matsumoto, located at the base of the Japan Alps. Far less crowded than other popular destinations in Nagano prefecture, a visit to Soba House gives guests an intimate experience with food, people, and the surrounding area.
